The creative force behind MYS-TV Studios is Greg Gilmartin. Born in Brooklyn, NY, his mother, Mary thought he was a burlesque troubadour for many years because she could never keep track of where he lived. That was just part of gaining the experience. After a stint as a Russian Linguist in the USAF, Greg studied Speech and Theater at Oneonta, then chased the radio microphone for a dozen years with stops in Tampa, Springfield, Worcester and Hartford. Highlights include play by play for the Rowdies, roving news reporter and sportsanchor in Massachusetts with daily visits to Fenway, Foxboro or Boston Garden. In 1977 he landed in Hartford joining the legendary Bob Steele and Arnold Dean on WTIC. A national sports talk show started the 80s where he competed for the overnight audience of America with Larry King. He lost. No tears. That was followed by the beginnings of a television career behind and in front of the camera. Mostly behind. A six year stint marketing Ski Sundown polished the growing success story and then there was the writing for a variety of regional and national magazines with a special interest in fast cars, fast boats and regular paychecks. A novel written and a couple of books started, filled the gap between directing commercials and corporate videos in Greater Hartford. Oh, and that 17 year gig with the Hartford Whalers as PA Announcer. The Blizzard and Wolf Pack, too. In the mid 90s a life changing trip to Arizona, a year shooting the red rocks of Sedona and the Colorado Plateau and a return to Mystic in 1997 to co-found, with Larry Yakaitis, a tourism hotel network connected by a TV show that brought the lifestyle of this region to the eyes of visitors sitting in their rooms wondering what to do next. For Greg, the wondering and wandering has settled down some. In 2006, he began his 8th year with MYS-TV Studios and his second year as sole owner. He knows he will be storytelling this week, turning another phrase on the page, capturing a slice of beauty on video and giving voice to a message for another business or two. The hotel show will be delivered the first week of the month and in the background the seemingly endless sound of the robotic DVD duplicator will hum a story of another project on the road to completion. And in the summer, every Wednesday night and most weekends, he will be racing sailboats, the one passion in which he has yet to figure out how to make money.
